Cabling for tomorrow

Spyware

(Some estimates say almost 90% to 95% of pc’s could be infected)

Adware

The main purpose of an Adware program is to capture “anonymous” data for targeted advertising.  This is just an annoyance but can cause problems.

Malware

Less common but more severe is Malware.  These are programs that bog down your system.  Can change settings and steal personal information like internet banking passwords, credit card numbers etc.  Hackers can use this to record even your keystrokes.  You definitely want to remove these.  One sign of Malware is pornography stuff pops up or your browser keeps on crashing or doing things on its own.

If you are experiencing pornography pop-ups, a great decrease in memory and CPU resources, and losing control of your pc like your home page is always changing.  These are signs of Spyware.

Recommended solutions:

Install the following programs and run the update for each program afterwards:

These two are just basic and will be just fine for beginner to intermediate PC users.  You will be better off running these programs in Windows Safe-Mode with networking.  To get to Windows Safe-mode you just keep pressing the F8 key after restarting the pc.  Once you are in Safe-Mode and networking enabled.  Run both of these programs just follow the respective software recommendations.

For the intermediate to advanced users try HijackThis.  Be very careful because this modifies Registry.  You will need to read about this program to benefit from its power.  Also you can collaborate with other techs about a system using its capture.  HijackThis can be downloaded from à http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html.

These are basics for any PC Tech to solve a SLOW PC problem that is running Windows.  For a tech to come over and run these programs they charge by the hour and these programs take a while to run.  If you are having a PC with Windows with symptoms mentioned then follow these tips for starters, Defragment your hard drive, and save on IT costs.
